2021 Genesis G90 vs. 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Luxury At Its Fiercest

June 18th, 2021 by

Although crossover SUVs have taken over the car market, the competition for the luxury sedan is still untamed, especially with top Mercedes-Benz and Genesis. This go around, we are comparing the full-size 2021 Genesis G90 against Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Let’s see how these top-ranking models measure up.

Genesis G90

The Genesis G90 sedan is filled with standard conveniences. It also comes with a twin-turbocharged V6, along with an optional V8 motor. The reason why this luxury car is alluring to potential buyers is that it is priced much lower than many of its rivals.

In terms of the ride, there is a Sport setting that creates haste in the throttle response and firms up the suspension, and even though this car is quite speedy, both drivers and their passengers will still experience much comfort and tranquility as they go about their journey. Additionally, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) is standard, however, all G90 models have optional all-wheel-drive (AWD)

Only adding to its charm, the interior is filled with posh detailing, such as Nappa leather, polished wood, and speaker grills made of stainless steel. One con, however, is that the cabin’s analog is a bit outdated compared to the rest of the opulent interior.

A big positive is that even the entry-level trim is full of technological gear, including gadgets like heated/ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, satellite radio, a 17-speaker/900-watt Lexicon surround-sound system, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system.

More standard features encompass a slew of safety and driver-assist technologies such as lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision mitigation, a 360-degree camera system, and blind-spot monitoring.

The resale values are pretty decent. The G90 also has a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, in addition to free scheduled maintenance and concierge services.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

As great as the G90 sedan is, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues to be a force of nature among vehicles in its segment and in the automotive market in general. Buyers of this car have the choice of engines that are full of life and energy, as well as AWD that ensures a ride that is spirited but stable.

Owing to the rear-axle steering, performance with this car is quite strong and easy to maneuver as it would be in a smaller car. In the Mercedes AMG® performance division, there are also a couple of sporting variants of the brand’s high-tier model, however, that’s in a completely different realm for those who don’t plan on racing on a track.

The quality in terms of the comfort and overall makeup is simply out of this world, and there is much spaciousness regarding head- and legroom for all of those aboard. Standard accessories include leather upholstery, heated and cooled massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a Burmester 15-speaker audio system.

You’ll also find a gigantic central touchscreen, which is responsible for activating functions for temperature, navigation, infotainment, and more. Moreover, the interface system allows you to use voice commands for some of these functions. Additional standard amenities include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, six USB ports, and 19-inch wheels.

If all of those niceties weren’t enough for you, higher trims involve the AMG® line, with special optional wheels and a unique body, and the Executive line, with Nappa leather upholstery, electrically adjustable rear seats, and rear-seat touchscreens. Safety technologies include rear passenger airbags, Pre-Safe Plus which will further secure the seatbelts and close the sunroof if it senses an impending crash. There is even a system that will lift the car if it senses a collision from the side.

Who Outranks Who?

The 2021 Genesis G90 is not only more affordable than other luxury sedans from other companies, it paired with dynamic engines and a great deal of standard gear and splendor, but it still needs to work on building a notable reputation in its own segment.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is simply marvelous in terms of its suave and sexiness. It also doesn’t fail to dazzle us with its innovative technologies. While it’s certainly more expensive than its competitor, you’ll get exactly what you’re paying for.
