2022 Acura RDX vs. 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Luxury Against Luxury

March 3rd, 2022 by

The 2022 Acura RDX and the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC are two deluxe compact crossovers known for their enthusiastic drive and loaded features. They share positives like available all-wheel-drive (AWD), good safety ratings and optimal fuel economy, but differ with the Acura’s lower starting price and the GLCs various engine choices. Here are all the ways that these SUVs add up.

Acura RDX

The Acura RDX comes dressed to impress with its impressive quality and overall reliability. Its sole engine option is a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged that provides much thrust to get this bad body moving.

The RDX is particularly fun when geared with the Advance pack, which includes adaptive suspension and Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. The feel of the brake pedal has also improved for this model year.

The interior is comfortable and tranquil, with added noise reduction features. Space is plentiful with 38 inches of rear legroom, the best in its class. Tasteful bits include aluminum on the doors, dashboard, center console, and wood on the upper trims. Cargo space also amounts to a generous 60 cubic feet.

There are many standards such as keyless entry and ignition, a powered tilt and slide panoramic roof, simulated leather upholstery, heated and 12-way power-adjustable front seats, and dual-zone climate control. Infotainment comes from a 10.2-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, along with Wi-Fi.

Driver-aids include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Other features can be accessed through grouped packages. For example, the $3,000 Technology package can be had on the base model and comes with wireless charging, ambient cabin lighting, front and rear parking sensors, sport seats, leather upholstery, and a 12-speaker ELS audio system. Additional packages may consist of an adaptive suspension, 360-degree camera system, and 16-way power-adjustable front seats. There’s even a PMC model (limited-edition) that encompasses many of the features in the top-tier packages.

Mercedes-Benz GLC

The GLC has a better range of engine choices, along with standard rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or optional 4MATIC® AWD, ultimately providing a drive that involves much confidence. In-house, the luxurious cabin has many premium materials, while the outside has a more adventurous and sporty look (on the AMG® versions).

The base 4-cylinder 2.0-liter is already capable, with various drive modes that cause a considerable change in the crossover’s driving behavior, from either firm and sporty to comfortable and casual.

Upgrading to the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 gives the SUV more power, while the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 takes the driving experience to a different level.

All AMG® variants use the AWD system as a standard, while the base model uses RWD and optional AWD. All GLCs use a smooth and suave 9-speed automatic transmission.

As with the Acura, the GLC is well equipped, welcoming occupants with standard heated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 40/20/40-split power-folding back seats. The infotainment system works through a 10.25-inch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, and voice control.

Standard driving aids involve active brake assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors. Some options also include a Driver Assistance package with semi-autonomous features, a Premium package, a Multimedia package, and several appearance packages.

Which One Should You Choose?

The 2022 Acura RDX is a joy to work with when behind the wheel, but the luxury aspect isn’t all the way there. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz shows its competitors that it should leave luxury matters to the big-timers. This brand continuously shows what it’s made of with its craftsmanship and high-tech features. Ultimately, the 2022 GLC will give you more bang for your buck.
