What better way to start off the new year than with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan? This model is perfect for shoppers who are looking for “first-class features” without necessarily having to pay a “first-class price”. It’s the perfect blend of complementary and affordability, especially with its long list of standard features, deluxe-style interior, as well as its dynamic turbocharged engine. Combined with an unbelievable amount of leg-room for passengers, the Mercedes is no doubt is a top contender among entry-level luxury sedans.

Exterior

Image is everything! Your appearance is the first thing that a person sees. As shallow as that may sound, let’s start off by discussing the exterior.

With the AMG® body styling, the 2020 A-Class has a resculpted front air dam, flared side sills and deep rear valance team with 18-inch AMG® wheels for an enticing appearance. Speaking of wheels, Mercedes AMG® alloy wheels feature a twin 5-spoke design with concave Titanium Grey ribs. They are also equipped with Extended Mobility tires, which are perfect for any season. Other cool beauty marks include chrome diamond-block grille, sport front seats and a sport steering wheel.

Of course, shoppers have a wide range of colors to choose from, like Polar White, Night Black, Jupiter Red, Cosmos Black Metallic, Iridium Silver Metallic, Mountain Grey Metallic, Mojave Silver Metallic, Denim Blue Metallic, Mountain Grey Metallic, Denim Blue Metallic, Digital White Metallic, and Patagonia Red Metallic.

Drive and Engine

“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. The 2020 sedan keeps the engine from the previous year, which is a 2.0L inline 4-turbo. It combines turbocharging with a number of advances to deliver more power from less fuel. The base 220 trim generates 188 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Its nicely crafted, especially with the direct injection that has the ability to fine-tune itself in milliseconds.

In terms of the drive, “hold on to your horses”, because you are most certainly in for a snappy kick! The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic aids in providing seamless shifts in a timely manner. Its also an easy and light drive, whether or not you opt to get the 220 4MATIC®. The steering and handling are pretty direct and powerful. Although the horsepower doesn’t seem too impressive, the torque makes up for it.

If the transmission wasn’t enough, then you’re in for another treat! The new A-Class also includes the Dynamic Select features. This is a multimode drive program that allows one to select on the console to transform how you drive with just the push of a button. There are three modes to choose from: ECO, Comfort and Sport. Each mode alters the throttle response, shift points and steering effort, as well as ECO start and stop. Additionally, there is a fourth “individual” model that allows the driver to create a mode or his or her own and even lets them set the transmission for purely manual shifting.

Interior Style and Features

First impressions do matter, but it’s the inside the counts too. In the case of this 2020 Mercedes sedan, the inside really does matter, as the interior is just as impressive as the exterior. It has a premium look that one should expect in a Mercedes-Benz. It’s also perfect for those who need “personal space”, as there is an impressive amount of legroom for both front (41.8 inches)  and rear passengers (33.9 inches) alike. Additionally, a standard folding back seat is included with a 40/20/40 split, which is great accommodation towards items that large too large to fit in the truck.

Obviously, a luxury vehicle is absolutely nothing without its luxury features. The 2020 A-class includes plenty of features infotainment and connectivity features like Bluetooth® phone and music streaming, HD radio and a 7-inch touchscreen. Base models also come with an eight-speaker sound system, five USB-C ports, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. For an upgrade available on the Premium package, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen is offered. SiriusXM satellite radio and a Burmester stereo is also an option.

Safety matters too and in the age of tech-innovation, you can do more than just buckle up. Mercedes Benz includes impressive safety and driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, which are all standard.
