Hey Carrie! The Mercedes-Benz Van Is Getting Electrified In The City!
Mercedes-Benz New Electric City Van
In just a matter of weeks, the world premiere of the incredible and magnificent Mercedes-Benz EQS luxury sedan will be on full display to automotive lovers everywhere. It doesn’t seem that long ago when this flagship got us talking as a Vision EQS concept, and now it’s an unstoppable production model filled with a matchless level of upscale and progressive features. These interior goodies will also make their way to other segments involving SUVs, crossovers, as well as minivans and commercial vans.
Speaking of commercial vehicles, in an effort to compete with Ford’s upcoming E-Transit fully-electric cargo van, Mercedes-Benz is working on their own version, basing it off their Sprinter Cargo Van. This vehicle is said to offer 93 miles of electric range. The German automaker recently gave the public a sneak peek of their latest compact electric city van dubbed the eCitan, which may allow the company to become the top competitor in the electric vehicle segment.
The electrified Citan gave us a tease through spy shots (released on Car Buzz) of its fully-clothed prototype, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz. The eCitan van will be the fully electric variant of the next-gen Citan that is set to arrive in Europe. Regarding measurements, the eCitan is a bit more petite than the EQV, therefore, one can think of it as similar to the Metris minivan.
Externally, the camouflaged van seems to mirror its gasoline counterpart, with the omission of the brand’s logo on the front that can be raised in order to access the charging port.
The exact details are few and far between, but Mercedes-Benz says that the next-gen Citan, as well as the electrified eCitan will provide “generous space with a high storage volume in the interior” for urban deliveries. Additionally, it will have wide sliding doors and a low loading sill, which will allow for easy access to the cabin. The company also state that the eCitan will encompass “comprehensive safety equipment and a high level of driving comfort.”
At the moment, certain details regarding things like performance and range are being kept on the “hush-hush”, but we’re certain that those tidbits will be revealed when the upcoming vehicles make their dramatic entrance towards the second half of this year.
Electric Emergency Vehicles?
What if Mercedes-Benz went further than the eCitan? What if they upped the ante in their latest achievements, just when you thought they couldn’t? What if in fact, they announced they were actually planning on constructing an electric emergency vehicle based on their eSprinter van?
All of those “What If’s” can be explained by tuning in next week to our blog site at Mercedes-Benz of Washington. But don’t leave before checking out of a wide selection of vehicles from the automaker, such as the cute and affordable Mercedes-Benz A-Class or the fast and furious AMG® GT-Roadster.
