Mercedes-Benz recently completed a tour through Europe using its all-electric e-Actros 600 semi-truck. The eActros 600 aims to meet sustainability goals while maintaining impressive performance. To showcase the semi-truck’s capability, Mercedes-Benz conducted a forty-five-day tour through 22 European countries. While the German automaker has recently adjusted its EV goals, this feat marks a significant achievement for Mercedes as it highlights the efficiency of electric semi-trucks, specifically the eActros 600. The semi-trucks used during the tour were near-production prototypes but this bodes well for Mercedes-Benz. We’ll take a closer look at the details of the tour and see what consumers can expect.

Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 Achieves Significant Milestone

Mercedes-Benz recently completed a European tour with two of its eActros 600 semi-trucks. The eActros 600 is a fully electric semi-truck that aims to pave the way for sustainable shipping and delivery. As a test of the truck’s efficiency and capability, Mercedes-Benz planned a forty-five-day tour through 22 European countries. The German automaker used two near-production prototypes for the trip. Starting in Frankfurt, Germany, the two trucks traveled 9,500 miles through countries like Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Croatia, and Hungary to name a few. The eActros 600 semi-trucks carried a payload of 80,000 pounds stopping only at public charging stations. About the tour, Mercedes-Benz Trucks Head of Global Testing Christof Weber said,

“Such a monumental trip requires meticulous preparation and planning, especially with regard to charging at public infrastructure,” said Christof Weber. “Even if our experiences with charging stops varied greatly in some cases, it was apparent that battery-electric long-distance haulage is feasible.”

Weber did not provide extensive information about the eActros 600 semi-trucks but we know the electric trucks have a maximum range of about 310 miles. This was also the longest distance the semi-trucks traveled without charging in between. Mercedes-Benz will provide more details about the eActros 600 at an IAA Transportation event in Germany in September. Although Mercedes-Benz is eyeing ICES over EVs, this demonstration of the electric semi-truck emphasizes the automaker’s efficiency and reliability when it comes to electric vehicles For now, we’ll be staying tuned for more information.
