CLA-Class Concept Sedan Unveiled
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled an all-new CLA-Class concept sedan. Showcased at the IAA Mobility event in Munich, Germany, the sedan sheds light on where Mercedes is headed for the future. The CLA-Class sedan is the first model to ride on the automaker’s new Modular Architecture platform. This platform will serve as the foundation for a line of electric vehicles as Mercedes-Benz builds up its EV lineup. The concept sedan features a sleek design with a longer wheelbase, a seamless grille, and a sculpted hood. Together, the exterior style gives off a powerful look. About the all-new concept, the chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz Ola Källenius said,
“The Concept CLA Class is the forerunner for an entirely new all-electric segment of entry-level vehicles at Mercedes-Benz,” said Källenius. “The range will comprise a total of four new models–a four-door coupe, a shooting brake, and two stunning SUVs–each with significantly elevated product substance. This new model family is inspired by a generation of car buyers who want that unmistakable Mercedes-Benz feel, with more features, even greater comfort and safety, and the most advanced technology.”
The CLA-Class concept sedan utilizes an 800-volt electric architecture with an energy-dense battery. Mercedes-Benz has equipped the sedan with a new Electric Drive Unit that delivers 235 horsepower. The CLA features a single motor that powers the rear wheels, but Mercedes’ new Modular Architecture platform will also used for large vehicles with dual motors. Inside the CLA-Class sedan, owners will find a spacious cabin that appears airy and open thanks to an expansive glass roof. A Nappa leather upholstery brings an elevated style that is complemented by ambient lighting. A full-width digital display serves as the digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen. For range, the CLA-Class sedan sees up to 466 miles of battery range and a DC fast charger allows owners to charge at 250 kW. There is currently no pricing for the new concept but from what we’ve seen, Mercedes-Benz is headed in the right direction with its new EVs.
