Mercedes-Benz Opts For All-Electric Cars For Employees In Germany
Mercedes-Benz is aiming to further its push into electrification. The latest news surrounding the German automaker comes from the German newspaper Automobilwoche. According to the newspaper, Mercedes will transition its company cars in Germany to all-electric ones. While Mercedes is not requiring its employees to switch to EVs, this is a hard prod in that direction. Like many other automakers, Mercedes is planning to transition completely to EVs in the near future. Steps like this demonstrate the automaker’s resolve to build a more sustainable and electric future. We’ll examine how this decision will affect Mercedes’ German employees as well as the automaker’s direction for the future.
Mercedes-Benz Aims For All-Electric Lineup
According to a German newspaper called Automobilwoche, Mercedes will electrify its entire company fleet in Germany. The German automaker plans to transition fully to EVs by 2030 and this step seems to be preparation. A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz commented stating that Mercedes will not require its German employees to switch to EVs, however, it will electrify its entire lineup by 2030. Were the automaker to require its employees to transition to electric vehicles, Mercedes would see at least 5,000 of its company cars electrified.
While Mercedes’ statement does not explicitly require employees to transition to EVs, it does seem to be a strong nudge in that direction. Unsurprisingly, most of Mercedes’ German company cars are already electric, with about one-third of employees using an EV. Close to forty percent use plug-in hybrids. So while Mercedes-Benz is not requiring its company cars to be fully electric, that reality may not be too far off.
As far as its lineup is concerned, Mercedes-Benz plans to offer a fully electric option for each of its segments by 2025. The luxury automaker currently offers a hybrid option within each of its segments, but this seems likely to change soon. Just recently, Mercedes unveiled the next-generation CLA electric sedan at the German International Motor Show, IAA Mobility. The fully electric sedan will reportedly ride on Mercedes’ new MMA platform and offer long-range capabilities of up to 466 miles. With 2025 being as close as it is, we will have to stay tuned for more information. For now, it’s safe to say that EVs are a guarantee in Mercedes’ future.
