Mercedes-Benz Unveils All-New 2024 eSprinter Cargo Van
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled an all-new electric cargo van called the eSprinter. The fully electric cargo van serves as an alternative to ICE vans in that it offers greater efficiency. As of late, Mercedes-Benz has been focused on EVs. The German automaker launched its first charging hub in the US and has partnered with the popular chain Buc-ee’s for a network of charging stations along the southeastern US. As Mercedes continues its EV efforts, consumers will see more and more EVs like the eSprinter. While the electric cargo van is aimed at commercial customers, other EVs like the electric G-Wagon will be steadily released. For now, we’ll take a closer look at the 2024 eSprinter and see what consumers can expect.
2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Is An All-Electric Cargo Van
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled an all-electric cargo van called the eSprinter. Designed to offer improved efficiency and reliability, the 2024 eSprinter is an electric alternative to its ICE equivalent. Given Mercedes’ focus on EVs, it makes sense to offer a more eco-friendly fleet vehicle. The German automaker has implemented its new lithium iron phosphate batteries as well which helps lower production costs. Compared to the ICE Sprinter, the eSprinter does offer some benefits however it proves more beneficial in densely populated cities. Perhaps commercial companies will line their fleets with a mix of EV and ICE vans to maximize efficiency.
As for the eSprinter’s performance, the electric cargo van comes available with either a standard output or high-output configuration. The standard output utilizes a 100-kW motor that delivers 134 horsepower. The high-output setup utilizes a 150-kW motor that delivers 201 horsepower. Both configurations feature 295 lb-ft of torque as well as 2,600 pounds of payload and 4,277 pounds of towing capacity. For range, the electric van sees 273 miles of battery range. For cargo space, the eSprinter offers 488 cubic feet. To help with range and performance, the cargo van offers three drive modes–comfort, eco, and maximum range. These modes adjust the accelerator response and the climate control system.
In terms of charging capacity, the 2024 eSprinter fully charges in about 12.5 hours. Using a DC fast charger, the EV van can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 93 minutes. A faster charging option uses a 115-kW DC charger to charge to 80 percent in just 42 minutes. Inside the van, owners will have access to a 10.25-inch touchscreen that serves as the infotainment system. Similar to Mercedes’ CLA and EQS, features like smart navigation and voice commands are available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available. For safety, there’s a digital rearview mirror that utilizes a high-mount rear camera to improve rear visibility. At a starting MSRP of $74,181 (plus destination fee), the 2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter seems to be a good addition to commercial fleets operating in densely populated cities.
