The  eEconic Truck

The Mercedes-Benz’s eEconic model is a truck meant for municipal use, and it’s going into series production at the company’s Wörth site in the southern Rhineland-Palatinate. In just a short period of time, the second model of Mercedes-Benz trucks, specifically battery-electric ones are scheduled to leave the production line from the site. This was in the aftermath of the series launch of the eActros for urban distribution transport in October 2021.

The eEconic was constructed together with customers, and following an in-depth test series, has been going through practical trials with customers since May of this year. This first vehicle from the series production will be delivered to Urbaser A/S, a company in Demark that operates in the waste disposal sector. Other customers have already chosen to get the series-production eEconic. The vehicles are set to be delivered consecutively over the course of the year.

The eEconic model will go through the manufacturing process in the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks assembly line, and alongside the trucks with gasoline-powered engines. After the truck has been mostly assembled, the eEconic will receive its electrified power in the Future Truck Center, where it’s geared with the electric drive components; The same has been done for the eActros. In various production steps, the high-voltage batteries and the charging unit are installed, along with other components. Once all of these elements have been put together, the entire system can enter operation, and the truck will be ready to drive.

The main technical specifications of the eEconic are hugely comparable to those of the eActros. The eEconic as a waste collection is made to cover the large majority of common waste collection routes managed by an Econic in a single shift and without intermediary charging. This drivetrain allows a level cab floor to be fashioned, thereby, proving to be beneficial when the driver wants to leave the vehicle through the folding door on the front passenger’s side, avoiding incoming traffic.

A considerable progression over the traditional Econic comes in the form of the cutting edge and intelligible multimedia cockpit. There are many interior highlights that drivers of these trucks will be able to enjoy, such as panoramic glazing, as well as coated and heated Thermocontrol windscreen that prevent the misting of the screen. This screen also prevents the cab’s interior from heating up from the sunlight. On top of that, there is standard Sideguard Assist S1R and the 5th generation Active Brake Assist emergency braking assistant.
