The 2021 Mercedes-AMG® GLA 45 Is The Powerhouse You’ve Never Known Before
It’s here! The 2021 Mercedes-AMG® GLA 45 that is. The GLA lineup is whole and happy again, as the second-generation SUV was presented late last year, in 2020. According to the automaker, the lastest SUV has an incredible amount of power. No actually, the new Mercedes model has the most powerful four-cylinder engine currently available! Not to mention that it has new performance-oriented features.
There is a lot happening with the engine, which was constructed by hand and aids in boosting power. This implementation is quite different compared to the 2.0-liter engine in the GLA35. Mercedes moved the engine 180 degrees on its vertical axis in order to place the turbocharger and exhaust manifold at the rear part of the engine. This decision provides the engineers with the opportunity to make more aerodynamic front and revised air ducts in order to construct shorter pathways.
The 45’s engine, which is a 2.0-liter turbo-four can now make 382 horsepower, which is a staggering amount of power from such as small power source. It also has 354 lb-feet of torque, which can provide 4,750-5,000 rpm, a rate that is higher than usual for this type of turbo.
On the more internal side, the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission works well with the AMG®’s all-wheel-drive system and Torque Control. With the second-mentioned, the AWD system can power between the front and rear wheels if necessary, as well as the left and rear right wheels. One should anticipate even better traction since the Torque works to remove slippage, especially on the track.
The 45 has high-performance brakes that include four-piston front calipers, one-piston floating calipers at the rear. The sporty-like vehicle also has a unique steering rack with a ratio that is varied contingent on the drive program that is selected. This should assist further in making the 45 more comfortable but it’s even more spirited when summoned. Drivers who really want to liven things up can utilize the electronic stability control settings, which are configurable through the AMG® Dynamics function.
The new GLA 45 has a plethora of AMG® design cues, like distinctive grille and 19-inch AMG® wheels. In the back, the twin exhaust pipes highlight a wider rear bumper while the dynamic diffuser aids in boosting the aerodynamic profile. On the inside, the vinyl or sometimes known as “MG-Tex” covers the interior with classic AMG® details while the new MBUX infotainment system addresses all of the driver’s tech needs.
There are also touches of carbon, including color-contrast stitching in order to break-the black upholstery up. Leather and AMG® Sport seats are optional, as well as a performance steering wheel and a number of other color combinations.
Mercedes has not yet released the price on its latest installment, but one should anticipate an increase over the last model’s $50,600 starting price. Don’t get too anxious yet, as it won’t hit dealers until late 2020…but on the bright side, Mercedes-Benz of Washington is currently selling the very thrilling and spirited 2020 GLA 250 4MATIC® SUV for roughly $40,000.
