The 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Gets An A+ In Its Performance

November 19th, 2020 by

The Mercedes-Benz company has always been adept in its diversity, especially when it comes to its styling and technologies. With the C-Class model, shoppers have the choice of driving a smooth and stable drive sedan, or the break your neck AMG® 63 S Cabriolet that lunges out 503 horsepower.  Regardless of which variation feeds your fancy, each one has a large assortment of options.

New For 2021

For the upcoming year, the 2021 C-Class is keeping it simple with a couple of nifty updates on the equipment. The first being the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which previously required a little bit more doe from the buyer but is now standard. Also standard in the sedan and coupe models are the heated seats, though not in the Cabriolet.

Additionally, the sedan has a new available Night Edition package. This batch of exterior goodies tacks on a hell-raising amount of black, as well as 19-inch AMG® wheels, “Night Edition” badging, AMG® sports seats rocking blue and gray stitching, and the brand’s AMG® Line steering wheel in leather and Dinamica faux suede.

Interior and Entertainment

The C-Class cabin serves as a respectable match with that of the E-Class flagship. The center console cascades from the top of the touchscreen slightly past the gear shifter. The use of true luxury materials are made obvious with every nook and cranny of the interior, and on top of this, there is an extensive range of design options to choose from, such as wood styles or carbon fiber on the center stack.

In terms of entertainment, this Mercedes car employs the familiar Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as well as a free 3-year subscription to Mercedes Me Connect services. Coupe and Cabriolet buyers get to enjoy a standard Burmester surround-sound system, satellite radio with a free 6-month subscription, and 64-color ambient interior lighting with illuminated door sills.

Performance and Fuel Economy

Mercedes in all of its glory provides us with three engine options and four performance levels, namely the C 300, AMG® C 43, AMG® C 63, and AMG® C 63 S. These four options are available in all three of the C-Class body styles, so the options are pretty much endless.

The base C 300 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that gives out 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The nine-speed automatic transmission is responsible for the shifting for both the rear- and all-wheel-drive. The 4MATIC® sedan can attain a rating of 23 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. Rear-wheel-drive achieved the same rating for the city and 35 mpg for the highway, meanwhile, the combined figure has not yet been listed.

Up next on the performance roster is the AMG® C 43. This trim uses the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and uses its AMG® boost to make 385 horsepower and 384 lb-feet of torque. The nine-speed automatic powers up all four wheels and helps in pushing the vehicle from 0-60 within 4.5 seconds. Fuel economy figures aren’t currently available but they’ll likely improve from 2020’s 19/27/22 mpg estimate.

The AMG® C 63 significantly steps it up with its AMG® 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Practically giving double than the base engine by producing 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, with the sedan pushing 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. In this case, power is only sent to the rear wheels, this time utilizing a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission.

The AMG® C 63 S uses the same engine but this time gives us a track worth 503 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque, sprinting 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds for the sedan and 3.7 for the coupe. Power is still only sent to the rear with the multi-clutch.

Safety Features

Similar to the advanced entertainment technologies, Mercedes is just as equipped with its safety features. All 2021 C-Class models are geared with blind-spot warning, forward collision warning, and Mercedes’ Pre-Safe technology. It’s recommended for the best sense of self-preservation to get the Driver Assistance package which comes with plenty of features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Congestion Emergency Braking, Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Pre-Safe Plus, and even more than.
