2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is an upcoming all-electric luxury SUV from the German automaker. Based on the same platform as the EQS sedan, the EQE SUV promises to offer cutting-edge technology, luxurious features, and a long-range electric powertrain. The EQE SUV is expected to compete with other luxury electric SUVs like the Audi e-Tron, Tesla Model X, and Jaguar I-PACE.

It might seem obvious from the name; the EQE SUV is a utility version of the EQE sedan, designed to be more multifaceted. The SUV offers more space for passengers and cargo and a higher seating position. One of the notable distinctions between the two models is the SUV’s shorter 119.3-inch wheelbase, which is 3.5 inches shorter than the sedan’s. This makes the SUV more maneuverable, particularly when equipped with the optional rear-wheel steering technology.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV stands out for two reasons: it adds to the growing list of stylish luxury EV options, and features a significant technological improvement with its new DCU. With more space for passengers and cargo, the EQE SUV is a versatile people hauler that boasts a sleek design. Meanwhile, the new DCU promises long-term improvements in the electric vehicle industry, highlighting the continued evolution of this technology.

There are three trim levels available for the EQE SUV. Beginning with the EQE 350+, it provides a maximum power output of 288 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque, with a range of up to 279 miles. The EQE 350 4MATIC®, on the other hand, has a range of up to 253 miles and can generate up to 288 hp, but with 564 lb-ft of torque, thanks to its second motor.

Lastly, the EQE 500 4MATIC® has a maximum power output of 402 hp and 633 lb-ft while also offering a maximum range of 269 miles. All three trim levels are equipped with a 90.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The SUV also features some of the popular EQ technologies, such as optional air suspension, over-the-air updates, and intelligent EV-specific navigation.

The EQE SUV’s regenerative braking system offers four modes with different levels of recuperation. In strong recuperation mode, the vehicle aggressively decelerates as soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal. In normal recuperation mode, the vehicle slows down more gently when the driver takes their foot off the pedal. No recuperation mode turns off the regenerative braking, so the vehicle behaves more like a traditional gas-powered car. The fourth mode, Intelligent Recuperation, adapts the braking levels based on map topology and current speed limits, blending aspects of the other modes for optimal energy efficiency.

The EQE SUV offers an optional rear-wheel steering system that allows the rear wheels to turn up to 10 degrees, reducing the turning radius by six feet to just 34.4 feet. With a shorter wheelbase than the EQE sedan, the SUV offers a car-like driving experience with the spaciousness of a midsize SUV.

The EQE 350+ SUV in North America is priced at $79,050 (plus destination fee) for the Premium trim, with the Exclusive trim costing $81,150 and offering features such as augmented-reality navigation and automated lane change. The top-of-the-line EQE 500 SUV 4MATIC® in Pinnacle trim comes with a price tag of $96,600 (plus destination fee) and features Mercedes Star pattern logo projectors. The SUV is set to arrive at showrooms this spring.

The development of the EQE SUV was specifically targeted toward the US market, and Mercedes-Benz has hit the mark with this model. It’s a top contender in the luxury electric SUV segment, providing features that match or even surpass what’s currently offered by the competition.
