The Mercedes-Benz 2021 E-Class Takes It Off!

The Mercedes-Benz 2021 E-Class strips down…its camouflage that is. Avid vehicle enthusiasts have already seen pictures and videos of the refreshed model. Although there are still many elements that are covered up, it’s still a generous amount as a tease of what’s to come.

The upcoming E-Class model is expected to arrive later this year with a new look on the front and rear. However, you might want to pump the brakes a little, as one shouldn’t anticipate an all-new model. Think of your 40-year-old Aunt Pam getting her annual botox injections. That’s the best way to sum up the new features of the new E-Class, a little lipo here, a little filler there. There are notable changes that are quite complementary and totally not botched.

Here are a few details of what’s to come!

Aunt Pam’s/E-Class Facelift

The 2021 E-Class has slimmer headlights, a new grille, and a front bumper that is reshaped; this is likely inspired by the updated 2020 GLC-Class SUV. Also, in the back of the car is a set of slimmer taillights.

A new exterior feature of the car is its iconic emblem on the grille. The previous model had a smaller version of the three-pointed star but the newest model receives a version that is much more eye-catching and sits front and center of the vehicle. There is a possibility that shoppers will be able to opt to have their emblem illuminated with hidden LED bulbs as it has been shown that some E-Class models have this feature in other markets.

Revised Interior

Standard features on the interior include a pair of 10.25-inch display screens and a touchpad between the front seats. However, the greatest metamorphosis is undoubtedly the next-generation Mercedes-Benz steering wheel. The new steering wheel design has touch control buttons and the latest generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system.

Moreover, the MBUX has a system that is easy to control in many different ways. System features include voice and gesture control as well as with (as previously mentioned) touch-sensitive buttons on the tiller. Simply press the touchscreen or touchpad to adjust to preferred settings. Additionally, the navigation system, which is standard on the new E-Class, is enhanced by augmented reality for a  better driving experience.

Intelligent Drive Systems

Perhaps one of the most valuable highlights of this new Mercedes breed is the wide range of driver-assistive features. The E-Class system will recognize and respond to traffic jams via Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC system with route-based speed adjustment. If drivers find themselves in heavy traffic, the Jam Assist aids the driver by slowing down or coming to a complete stop depending on the distance between the upcoming vehicle (you can set the distance before-hand).

Drivers will also appreciate the other safety assist features such as Active Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist w/ cross-traffic function, Active Blind Spot Assist w/ exit warning, and a Parking Package w/ a 360-degree camera.

Powerful Engines

Finally, the most important function is, of course, the engine. The 2021 E-Class will get a set of new inline motors with the Mercedes-Benz EQ Boost 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. The system works with an integrated starter-generation ISG motor situated between the engine and transmission. Also, drivers will experience a boost of power and torque at opportune times.

Overall, the U.S market will include two engine choices. The base E 350 has a two-liter incline four-cylinder engine with ISG and an onboard 48-volt electrical system that produces 268 horsepower with an additional 20 horsepower with the ISG motor.

Arrival and Mercedes-Benz of Washington

The arrival of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected by the summer of this year and in Europe. One should anticipate seven plug-in hybrid models with either RWD or 4MATIC® all-wheel drivetrains. Details for North American models are unclear at the moment but it’s likely that it will arrive in the U.S. later this year.

On the bright side, Mercedes-Benz of Washington has a slew of current Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans in a variety of different trims.
