The Mercedes G-Wagon Trading It’s Designer Jeans For Some Off-Roading Slacks
While Mercedes-Benz G-Class is no doubt a stunner in the looks department in more ways than one, it’s this same characteristic that some have criticized it for, with some saying that it focuses too much of the overall opulence, rather than the vintage off-road experience that was in the military models that we originally saw. Seemingly in an effort to silence those critics, this German automaker is inaugurating a new Professional Line Exterior package the G-Wagon in Europe that tacks on much more rugged design features.
This truck isn’t a stranger to getting a Profession trim level, as it was available in the last few years of the generation before its current one, and the concept isn’t about the same. This new variant will involve 18-inch wheels with Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain tires, stone guards for the headlights, large mud flaps, a roof rack with a built-in ladder and a tent fixed on the rooftop, simplistic ide protector strips and a spare tire carrier that has a more intense look. Contrasting from the previous Professional model, which provides the G-Wagon with a cleaner and more basic interior without entertainment like an infotainment system, the upcoming version will be keeping the same luxuries as the regular G-Class.
One reviewer at Cnet’s Roadshow site recently visited the Munich Auto Show. The reviewer commented that while he typically doesn’t care much for G-Wagon’s, preferring more luxurious features and flashiness over something outdoorsy, even he was impressed by the display. The particular car that was featured also contained many options from the brand’s G Manufaktur catalog, such as the impressive Matte Copper Orange paint with congruent black elements, together with a black exterior trim package and a tow hitch.
A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz USA confirmed that that the Professional G-Wagon won’t make its way to the States, but don’t fret! Because the 2022 G truck will still be getting a few upgrades, such as an Exclusive Line Exterior package. While there is no official word just yet as to what this bundle will encompass, there will also be a revamped MG Line package and three new “Interior World” themes. Additionally, the upcoming pickup will involve more standard features for European buyers such as tinted rear glass, prewiring for rear-seat entertainment, and 64-color ambient interior lighting (which will probably come to the States).
Although pricing for the Professional Line hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s estimated that it will cost close to $5,000. If you’re looking for something similar in the U.S., the AMG® G 63 has an available Trail Package that adds incredible off-road equipment. We’re also hoping that something similar will come our way with the upcoming all-electric EQG.
