The New 2021 Mercedes S-Class is Spotted in Disguise

Recently, the new 2021 Mercedes S-Class prototype was spotted by spy shots in Nurburgring, and on a relatively challenging track.

Although the new W223 was essentially covered by a thick camouflage, there are a few known ideas as far as the new exterior features. It will maintain the quintessential shape of a sedan. Also, based on earlier test models, it’s possible that the size and proportions will align in a similar fashion to the earlier models, but it might be a bit wider and with a lower and longer hood.

It’s been said the styles of the car will have a standard length as well as the stretched Maybach and Maybach Pullman styles. Additionally, the headlights will follow suit with the CLS model, and the taillights are visibly wider.

As far as the interior goes, due to the disguise, much should be left up to the imagination.  However, it is worth noting that previous spy shots revealed that changes in the dashboard including the touchscreen will be much larger than the previous 12.3 dual inch widescreen. It will also have a look that is portrait-oriented.

It is expected that as the current model, each screen will give the driver the ability to control functions involving entertainment, navigation, as well as other car functions.

In terms of any new programs or gadgets, as of yet, there haven’t been any details, but Mercedes has said they will share new details regarding the new sedan in the upcoming months.

On the contrary, it is worth noting that automakers are working toward Level 3 assistive driving, which is what the next Mercedes S-Class will offer in 2020, according to Automotive News.

During the Paris Motor Show, Ola Kaellenius, Daimler’s head of research and current spoke to reporters. “We are on the verge of jumping to Level 3, which is our target for the next S-Class. That is something that you can then buy as an option, and you can proliferate it relatively quickly into higher volumes – especially with a brand like Mercedes.”

This type of system allows the car to handle various situations and will allow the driver to be concerned with other things. On the flip side, one shouldn’t take this for granted, this is only a semi-autonomous feature, and the driver will need to be ready to take control back at any moment.

As of now, there are still obstacles to overcome, such as legal challenges and testing out the overall possible safety risks. Even if semi-autonomy doesn’t come with this model, Daimler still plans on slowly implementing similar features to their new models.

The current S-Class has the ability to change lanes with the tap of a finger. Slow itself for tollbooth exits and watch out for danger ahead or behind.

Overall, The current S-Class will essentially be an updated version of its previous design, specifically for rear-wheel-drive cars.

It is expected that the reveal will be in the year 2020, and enter production at Daimler’s new Factory 56 assembly plant. Additionally, this new sedan will be sold in the U.S as a 2021 model.

In the meantime, Mercedes-Benz of Washington has a wide range of Mercedes-Benz models, like the current S-Class, as well as other popular models like the SL sedan and Coupe, G-Class wagon, and much more.
