The Ultimate Fusion: A Closer Look at Mercedes-Benz’s 2024 CLE-Class Coupe

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the 2024 CLE-class, a sophisticated two-door model that replaces the recently discontinued C-class and E-class coupes, representing a strategic shift in their coupe lineup. The CLE showcases an elegant and streamlined design, incorporating design elements from the latest C- and E-class cars while retaining the brand’s typical bodywork with smooth surfaces and defined lines.

Measuring 191 inches in length, the CLE is slightly longer than its predecessor, the E-class coupe, and notably exceeds the C-class coupe by 6.5 inches. However, the wheelbase remains consistent with its predecessors, providing a spacious cabin, and the posh automaker claims the trunk can accommodate three golf bags, enhancing practicality.

Under the hood, the CLE 300 boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine, similar to the one used in the C 300 and E 350 sedans, generating an impressive 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking even more power, the CLE 450 model is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine from the E 450 sedan, delivering an impressive 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both powertrains are enhanced by an integrated starter-generator running on a 48-volt electrical system, contributing an additional 23 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. This ingenious system minimizes turbo lag and enhances the start/stop system’s efficiency.

The CLE’s handling is top-notch, with a four-wheel-drive configuration and a nine-speed automatic transmission that integrates the electric motor, power electronics, and transmission cooler, optimizing space utilization and weight distribution. Additionally, the CLE 450 offers a sport-tuned suspension for heightened performance.

Inside the cabin, the CLE boasts a modern and technology-focused interior, similar to the current C-class, featuring a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen angled towards the driver for intuitive control. The cabin experience is further elevated by premium features such as leather-wrapped, heated front seats with four-way lumbar support, seat ventilation, and an optional seven-zone massage function for enhanced comfort.

Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX infotainment system takes center stage in the CLE, seamlessly integrating third-party apps, entertainment options, and music streaming platforms. The system also employs artificial intelligence to learn the driver’s preferences and routines, making the driving experience more personalized and convenient.

Safety is of utmost importance in the CLE, with standard driver-assistance systems such as lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, and traffic sign recognition. An available package further enhances safety with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, steering and lane change assist, among other features.

While the exact pricing for the CLE is yet to be announced, it is expected to be competitively positioned within the luxury coupe segment. The 2024 CLE 300 is anticipated to start in the range of $60,000 (plus destination fee), while the CLE 450 is projected to begin at approximately $70,000 (plus destination fee).

To sum up, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE class presents an exciting and positive step forward in the brand’s coupe lineup, offering a blend of elegance, cutting-edge technology, and impressive performance, sure to captivate discerning luxury car enthusiasts.
