Mercedes-Benz Metaverse

The posh German car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG is on to its next business venture, particularly regarding the metaverse.

Recently, the car company filed five metaverse and NFT-correlated trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The five applications were meant for the “Mercedes Benz, Mercedes, S-Class, G-Class, and Maybach” in order to enact trademark protection for any possible NFT collections, marketplaces for NFTs and virtual car parts, along with making way for cryptocurrency trading.

One of these trademark filings for the automaker’s “Mayback” model detailed plans for “crypto-collectibles” involving digital or physical animal furs, blankets, carpets, rugs, and mats.

For another filing, specifically regarding the gasoline flagship S-Class sedan, said that it may feature “audio recordings, video recordings, image files, music, and multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio, images, or video featuring collectible items authenticated by NFTs.”

According to the applications, these NFTs or on-fungible tokens “featuring digital art” or a “representing a collectible item” are for use in online virtual worlds” concerning metaverse platforms.

This isn’t Mercedes-Benz’s first undertaking with blockchain, as the company has already dabbled in the implementation of the technology to make certain that there is consistent documentation of contracts throughout the supply chain.

Sometime last year, Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Daimler South East Asia created a blockchain-derived data-sharing platform constructed on Polygon. The platform enables users to share data like insurance information or clinical trials with other businesses.

On top of this, the automaker’s Formula One Racing team Mercedes-AMG® Petronas collaborated with crypto exchange FTX. It canceled the sponsorship and took off the FTX logo from race cars after its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last November.

Mercedes-AMG® Petronas and FTX had also come out with a line of NFTs collectibles for the Miami Grand Prix. This included free-to-claim limited edition ticket stubs for the race on the now-inoperative FTX NFT marketplace.

Mercedes-Benz Best Features

Outside of the Metaverse, Mercedes-Benz has some pretty impressive features in its high-end vehicles. Here are some excitements to look out for.

S-Class

This flagship vehicle can bring your navigation system to life with augmented reality. This standard feature on the 2023 S-Class shows images of what’s directly ahead, even highlighting direction signs and street numbers. This is displayed on the infotainment screen and the optional heads-up display.

G-Class

Our favorite feature on the G-Wagon truck is undoubtedly the Dynamic Select Drive Modes. Whether journeying on smooth highway roads or rough off-roading terrain, this system is responsible for decision-making in various driving situations. Drivers will be able to choose Slippery, Comfort, Sport, or Sport+, plus an Individual setting where one can set their personal likings such as steering and throttle response.

Maybach

The 2023 S-Class Maybach models are ultra-luxurious, offering 2-tone paintwork and power-operated doors. Within the cabin, the available features consist of folding tables, champagne flutes, and a chiller compartment.
