Mercedes-Benz Gets Generous With Its Free Electric Charging
Mercedes-Benz Offers 2 Years Of Free Charging
The 2022 Mercedes EQS sedan will be the electric flagship of the luxury German automaker, and the eco-friendly equivalent of their gasoline-powered S-Class sedan. The car company has recently announced that buying a new EQS electric sedan will get you two free years of charging…somewhat. Last month, Thursday (June, 17), Electric American and Mercedes-Benz announced an alliance that provides drivers with access to free 30-minute charging sessions for their first two years of ownership.
“Owners and lessees of the EQS will receive complimentary 30-minute charging per session for the first two years from Mercedes Me Charge account activation,” Said Electrify America in a statement. Owners of the EQS flagship will only need to create a Mercedes Me driver profile and then link charging the payment to a singular account.
While the 30 minutes may not seem like enough, one should also consider that the Mercedes-Benz EQS can charge with a 200-kW cable, which may add 186 miles of range in only 15 minutes. Seeing that the EQS’s final EPA range figure reaches right around 400 miles. 30 minutes is actually quite generous…but that’s assuming that you won’t have a hard time finding this speedy charger.
On top of the Electrify America collaboration, Mercedes-Benz also revealed a partnership with ChargePoint that same day, this will allow EQS drivers to access these charging stations via their Mercedes Me account. ChargePoint has around 60,000 chargers across North America, and all of them will be accessible by using the Mercedes Me app.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this type of partnership in the automotive world. The Porsche company made their own alliance with Electrify America, which allows their owners free charging with their Taycan car. These two companies will work jointly to expand the EA (Electronic Arts) network around the States.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 and EQS580 will both make use of a 107.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack, however, the 350 model uses a single-motor and rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system, while the 580 model has one motor fixed to each axle and all-wheel-drive (AWD). The EQS 450 results in 580 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. The EQS will be on sale in North America this fall.
Interior Comforts and Conveniences
More games and prizes on the 2022 EQS sedan involve its opulent 56-inch-long interior Hyperscreen. This giant display encompasses three particular screens, such as the 12.3-inch gauge cluster, the 17.7-inch central touchscreen, and the 12.3-inch passenger-side touchscreen.
On top of this, the electric sedan has a fingerprint scanner that shows individual driver profiles, “Hey Mercedes” voice-command system, and augmented-reality navigation in the head-up display. Moreover, each and every model has six USB-C ports throughout the moving lodge and a Burmester audio system.
