EQT Electric Minivan Concept Unveiled

The luxury German powerhouse, Mercedes-Benz has done it again with the unveiling of its new fully-electric EQT concept (on the way to production), which showcases its upcoming small deluxe van for families. It also will reign alongside a gasoline version, in the same way that the EQV does with the V-Class.

Alternatively, commercial clientele will be able to purchase either traditional or electric Citan/eCitan vans. Credit for the existence of these small campers goes to the partnership with Renault company.

When the EQT van is no longer just a concept, it will be introduced on the market as a 5- or 7- seater, and with more than enough luggage room, as well as sliding doors on each side. The design seems perfectly aligned with the EQ lineup, it’s just a bit smaller and more affordable than the EQV.

“The Concept EQT (length/width/height: 4,945/1,863/1,826 millimeters) features sliding doors on both sides with a particularly large opening so that both full-sized individual seats in the third row can be reached without difficulty. Three child seats can be fitted next to each other in the second row of seats. A panoramic roof with a starscape lasered into it floods the interior with light.

The vehicle’s elegant bottle design which tapers from the front to the rear makes the vehicle appear longer. The steeply sloping rear with a comfortable, vertical tailgate and window provides for a particularly spacious load compartment. If more space is required, the third-row seats can be folded or removed completely, leaving sufficient space for a pram, a transport box for dogs and other leisure equipment.”

The launching of the T-Class is set for 2022, with the electric version coming soon thereafter. At the same time, the electric eCitan will be unveiled in the latter part of this year.

At the current moment, Mercedes-Benz hasn’t revealed the specifics regarding the EVs specifications, however, the image of the interior shows that the instrument cluster has a range of 265 km or 165 miles, which is the expected range. Interestingly enough, the Renault Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric has the same target for WLTP, making use of a 44 kWh battery.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans commented:

“We are expanding our portfolio in the small van segment with the forthcoming T-Class. It will appeal to families and all those private customers, whatever their age, who enjoy leisure activities and need a lot of space and maximum variability without forgoing comfort and style. The T-Class provides them with an attractive introduction into the world of Mercedes-Benz. And as the Concept EQT shows: We are consistently implementing our claim to leadership in electromobility and will also be offering a fully electric model in this segment in the future,”.
