Mercedes-Benz Releases Virgil Abloh’s Limited Maybach S680

April 11th, 2022 by

Mercedes-Benz luxury upon luxury division, Maybach, recently announced an even more elite edition of the S680 sedan, which was designed in collaboration with the recently deceased, architect and fashion designer Virgil Abloh. This edition is truly limited, allowing a global run of just 150 units, and will be accessible in North America later this year.

The beloved fashion mogul previously worked with Mercedes-Benz on the Project Geländewagen in 2020. This new limited edition model gets its inspiration from Project Maybach, an enormous electric show car that the automaker constructed in collaboration with Abloh and his Off-White fashion brand, which, according to Mercedes-Benz, were both finalized before Abloh’s death in November 2021.

Virgil Abloh’s Maybach is a specially curated version of the Mercedes-Maybach S680 sedan powered by the competent 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. This motor produces an excellent output of 621 horsepower and 664 lb-feet of torque. The car is treated to a distinctive two-tone color combination that was specifically borrowed from Project Maybach pairing a glossy Obsidian Black upper portion with sand-colored paint underneath. The window frames are even painted black to create a look that is more uniform.

The inside of the cabin has a corresponding two-tone color scheme, along with black and sand Nappa leather all around. There are also identical high-pile floor mats, embroidery, and trim. There are special “Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh” logos displayed around the interior, such as on a plaque on the piano black center console, the rear cushions, headrests, and door sills.

It’s clear that there was an extensive amount of attention to detail, extending especially to the MBUX infotainment suite which has visual elements exclusive to the limited-edition model. The home button features a custom-colored border and the Virgil Abloh brand logo. At the same time, the Mercedes Me user profile pictures are presented with deluxe fashion accessories. Each example includes a special car cover that has the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo and a custom-made wood box embodied in sand color Nappy leather, which matches the car’s interior. It also has a 1/18 scale replica of the sedan, two car keys, and a carabiner hook.

As exciting as all of this is, one should rush to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership just yet. The Off-White, Farfetch, and Maybach Icons of Luxury of the model will only be available in online stores. The Off-White will also be available in retail locations in select countries. We’re still waiting for the automaker to reveal its pricing, but it is expected that the Mercedes-Maybach S680 will start above $$215,000, (plus destination fee).

For those who feel that the car is a bit…out of your budget, you can still get in the fun with the release of the Off-White Capsule Collection of sand-colored clothing items and accessories, which were also made from the Maybach/Abloh collaboration.
