The 2022 C-Class: I Can’t Believe It’s Not A Flagship!

As with many car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz is taking intentional and elaborate steps in the transition towards the electric future. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s ignoring its current gasoline models, more specifically with its 2022 C-Class sedan. This car received new updates for its mechanics and technological features, yet still retains its familiar appearance.

Thanks to a longer rear overhang, the 2022 C-Class has increased by 2.5 inches in length. The overall width grows somewhat, with rear-wheel-drive (RWD) models getting a wider rear track of 1.9-inches that presses the wheels out closer to the edge of the car body, while the front track grows by 0.8 inches.

The C 300 is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0-L engine. This is the first time that the automaker is gearing a 4-cylinder with a 48-volt hybrid-assist system, with the motor-generator infused into the transmission housing.

RWD is standard while all-wheel-drive (AWD) will cost an extra $2000 on all trim levels. The 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic is in charge of shifting duties. The engine has an output of 255 and 295 lb-ft of torque. The EQ Boost also offers additional 20 horses and 148 lb-ft of torque for short periods.

The chassis comes with adaptive dampers, while the AMG® Line package includes a sport suspension and has a lower ride height of 0.6 inches. This car also offers Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual, and (with the AMG® Line) Sport+ drive settings.

The C-Class cabin exudes nearly the same excellence and class as it does for the flagship S-Class. The front chairs have a feel that is nothing short of heavenly, while the cushions have ample thigh support. These chairs can also be lengthened or shortened. The 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display and the new portrait-shaped 11.9-inch center touchscreen display have a free-standing position. There’s even Blackwood trim, along with other material choices that emphasize the deluxe in-car design.

Also mirroring the S-Class, the navigation system even has an augmented video. When drivers approach a turn, the display will switch from a map to the camera feed with directional arrows and street names overlaying it.

At the bottom of the main touchscreen, there is a slider to control the audio and touch-sensitive buttons to select your preferred drive mode, activate the multiview camera, and open the car’s settings menu. One can even customize their preferences by using the fingerprint-recognition pad. Climate controls and audio tuning are also onscreen, along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Additionally, the controls on the steering wheel are touch-sensitive, with a slider to raise and lower the set speed of the cruise control and the audio volume. There are also 4-way touchpads that pilot the driver-information display.

That 2022 C-Class should be ideal for those who would want a Mercedes-Benz model but for a reasonable price. The C 300 can be had in Premium ($44,600*), Exclusive ($46,850*), and Pinnacle ($48,550*) trim levels. While some expected conveniences require a little extra doe, such as leather and adaptive cruise control w/ automated lane-change. These starting prices are considered quite a steal compared to its higher-ranking sibling, especially in regards to the S-Class.
