2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

Mercedes-Benz is spending its Spring Break by offering more advancements to its 2024 GLA-class SUV. This posh subcompact gets enriched powertrains, technological upgrades, and a slight facelift.

The updated styling begins at the corners, particularly the new headlights, and taillights. The front bumper and grille have also received embellishments. A fresh Spectral Blue Metallic paint and three available wheel designs have been tacked on, but that’s the extent of style changes for the exterior.

Inhouse, a pair of dual 10.3-inch screens that previously came with the Premium Package now acts as a standard, along with the infotainment system operating the latest generation of the MBUX software. Features currently available include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Mercedes-Benz has brought on another USB-C port with extra charging power. The GLA SUV involves two interior color choices: Black and Macchiato Beige. However, the more swanky AMG® GLA35 offers four interior colors in its selection. Additional standard features include Highbeam Assist, the Parking package, the Mirror package, and the Keyless Go.

New Hybrid Capability

The upcoming GLA-class gets its power from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that rides on front- or all four wheels. It produces 221 horsepower, and it’s mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Augmenting the powertrain is a new 48-volt hybrid system and belt-driven starter-generator, likely bringing more heartiness to the new GLA. Car and Driver measured 6.3 seconds in an all-wheel drive 2021 GLA 250 4MATIC® at 60 mph.

Improvements in the muscular Mercedes-AMG® GLA35 are highly comparable to the standard model. The AMG® version brings on the same 48-volt hybrid system. The reworking of the headlights and taillights are pretty similar, and the dual screens have the latest MBUX software. On the GLA35, the automaker’s badge on the hood is swapped by a Mercedes-AMG® badge to better distinguish between the two. The GLA35 also acquired an AMG® Performance Steering wheel.

The 35 models received many standard performance features, including all-wheel drive and a tuned and refined suspension that ramps up the driving performance to the regular Mercedes-Benz GLA 250. On the other hand, the automaker has let go of the 382-hp GLA 45 from the lineup, which means the e 302-hp AMG® GLA35 is all that remains.

Pricing

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB and their AMG® counterparts will make their way to North American dealerships in the fall of this year. The company has not yet revealed the starting price for these new models, but we’ll likely know this information as we get closer to the on-sale date. For reference, 2023 GLA and GLB begin at $38,650 and $40,095, respectively (plus destination fee).
